Independence Day 1996,  PG-13)
Independence Day
A top blockbuster action film with great special effects!
2
Deep Impact 1998,  PG-13)
Deep Impact
A good action/disaster film. Type you can watch over and over again.
3
Titanic (in 3D) 2012,  PG-13)
Titanic (in 3D)
The sheer scale of this movie is also Titanic! At nearly 3 hours long and a whopping budget this needed to be great.....and it succeeds. The sets, costumes all look amazing and authentic down to the last detail. The effects and stunts as the ship begins to flood and sink are impressive. Told from a retrospective view point of a survivor this is also a story of love as much as a true story of the disaster. Deserves every award it won.

Knowing 2009,  PG-13)
Knowing
A very enjoyable film and although a big budget film it doesn't overload you with SFX scenes. It's part action, disaster film but with a good solid story line to it. The action/disaster scenes are very intense and not seen on this scale before. Not everyone will enjoy the way it ends but overall a very good film worth seeing on the big screen.
5
The Day After Tomorrow 2004,  PG-13)
The Day After Tomorrow
A good disaster film with top notch SFX, could this be our real future?!
6
Poseidon 2006,  PG-13)
Poseidon
A cool popcorn version update of the original.
7
Armageddon 1998,  PG-13)
Armageddon
Similar to Deep Impact has plenty of action and laughs as well.
8
2012 2009,  PG-13)
2012
A great OTT action, disaster film on a grand scale. The budget must have been huge, the SFX alone are very good and the biggest pull of the film. So very well done, you'll feel like your on a roller coaster ride the whole time. Very similar to all the other big blockbuster films of Emmerich The day after the tomorrow and Independence day and this sticks to the same formula. Good cast to, well worth checking out!

The Core 2003,  PG-13)
The Core
An ok action/ disaster film. If you liked The day after tomorrow you will like this.
10
Twister 1996,  PG-13)
Twister
Far from great but does has cool SFX!
11
The Poseidon Adventure 1972,  PG)
The Poseidon Adventure
A good diaster flick from years ago. Has a great cast and good stunts for the time.
12
Dante's Peak 1997,  PG-13)
Dante's Peak
An ok disaster film with good SFX.
13
Volcano 1997,  PG-13)
Volcano
An average disaster film but has its moments and a strong cast.
14
Daylight 1996,  PG-13)
Daylight
Slated by critics this is a half decent disaster/ action film as a bunch of drivers get stuck in a tunnel towards Manhatten.
15
Flood 2007,  Unrated)
Flood
This is a fairly decent disaster film. It's a nice change to see a film of this type set outside New York for change! Some of the acting is pretty dour....the old guy playing a marine expert is especially bad, talking at the same pace and tone no matter what the scene. However the SFX in places are impressive and shots of a flooded London are believerable. Overall it would have benefitted from a bigger budget, but it is still watchable.

10.5: Apocalypse 2006,  Unrated)
10.5: Apocalypse
I need to see this again, rings a bell, sequel to the first TV film 10.5 with Dean Cain starring from the New Adventures of Superman!

10.5 2004,  Unrated)
10.5
I saw this on TV a couple of years ago as a 2 part drama, had good SFX for a TV film. Not bad at all.
18
Titanic 2 2010,  Unrated)
Titanic 2
Ah one of the low budget late night films on the SyFy channel you know will be bad, but you just have to see how bad! It could have been a lot worse, but the minimum budget really effects a film like this that uses a lot of CGI. The effects for the ship at sea are very basic. It doesn't feature a great cast Brooke Burns is the most famous I think, and she is a model! It's a mix of disaster films including Titanic, Poseidon and The day after tomorrow. Only watch if you like cheesy films!
19
Beyond the Poseidon Adventure 1979,  PG)
Beyond the Poseidon Adventure
Not a bad sequel to the original film, this time a crew of people go back to try and get the contents of the vault. Good cast and story line.
20
The Towering Inferno 1974,  PG)
The Towering Inferno
A pretty good disaster film from the 70's.
21
World Trade Center 2006,  PG-13)
World Trade Center
Not the greatest of films to watch, but due to the fact it is based on one of the most shocking events in recent history makes it compelling viewing. It's not ladden with tons of news footage from the day but caputures the shock and scale of what happened very well.
Made from the point of view of 2 port authority workers who get trapped under the World trade centre and how they coped until rescued.
22
Flight 93 2006,  PG-13)
Flight 93
A good film that relives the events of the flight 93.
23
Airport 1970,  G)
Airport
The first of the Airport disaster films. I remember seeing most of them on Sunday afternoons on TV as a young kid. Big budget blockbusters for the time with an all star cast! I think there were three sequels in the end Airport '75, '77 and '79 concorde! Check them out, still pretty good films and few disaster films about planes have been made since to this standard.
Not too mention it inspired two of the funniest spoof films (Airplane) as well!
24
Airport 1975 1974,  PG)
Airport 1975
Remember watching a few of these airport disaster films as a kid, always had a big budget for the time and A list actors, not bad films but ended up being quite a few in the end. Ok to pass the time.
25
Airport '77 1976,  PG)
Airport '77
Another airport disaster film, if I remember right this was interesting as it dealt with a plane that had crashed and was deep underwater in the ocean. Quite an intriguing film as they try to problem solve how to save the passengers.
26
Outbreak 1995,  R)
Outbreak
A very entertaining thriller about a deadly virus outbreak, quite relevant in light of recent events involving superbugs etc. Strong cast and will keep you wondering what will happen next all the through.
27
War of the Worlds 2005,  PG-13)
War of the Worlds
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be after being panned by critics. However I was expecting more action.
28
Skyline 2010,  PG-13)
Skyline
The trailer attracted me to see this a bit like the pretty blue lights in the film, despite the bad reviews. It was far from terrible, but I understand why most people didn't like it. I was hoping for something of a modern take on Independence day. In truth this only feels like one long drawn out segment of an alien invasion film. The SFX are pretty darn good, the cast was ok although hard to picture Donald Faison in anything but Scrubs. Then it ended abruptly in a rather strange way?! Let's hope the sequel feels more like a whole film.
29
Unstoppable 2010,  PG-13)
Unstoppable
It's an ok action film that takes a little while to get going. Based on true events, it's interesting viewing with a good cast, but there's only so much action, suspense you can have about a run away train.
30
The Happening 2008,  R)
The Happening
I heard this was bad but I just had to see for myself when it was on TV. Yep really bad, despite the director and actors involved this is very poor. The acting stands out as being really bad, almost hard to take them serious in some scenes. The script is bland and the story just odd and not really exciting. Avoid it!
