I cannot write everything I'd like to write about this movie without taking up like a whole page or something, so I'll boil it down to a few major points: first of all, if you're not a Brando fan this movie will turn you into one. His performance and his style are hard not to admire, he's one of the greatest actors. The story is based on Williams' play, of course, which is a very powerful, intense, dramatic play. Transferred to the screen with Kazan's style, it's brilliant. The only problem with the film is that it changes the ending from the play, but other than that it's fantastic. I highly recommend this movie. |

Stalag 17 1953, Unrated)
This is one of my favourite movies from Wilder, it's a subject that's close to his heart, and is still in the memories of many people: WWII concentration camps. This movie is about a POW camp really, but it's still related to that theme. Anyway, it balances dark comedy and drama so delicately and brilliantly I loved it. |

Kubrick's first great movie, I think. It exposes the problems men have with the army and its politics. Douglas is perfect in this movie too. At first I wasn't very interested in this movie, but in the end I realized it was actually a very good movie. If you like Kubrick's work you should see this movie. |

A Summer Place 1959, Unrated)
If you've seen Grease you've heard that song about Sandra Dee, Sandra plays against that image in this movie. I liked this movie because I could relate, as many do, to the predicament of having divorced parents who date people and you're expected to like them. Plus, the teenage dilemmas in the story as well. Overall a good movie, I liked it. |

Peyton Place 1957, Unrated)
For the most part this is a really good drama, but it was probably better as a book. You can see that the film makers were trying to push the limits of what they could do on screen at the time, and it's interesting to see how this movie deals with its controversial topics, but the movie is also pretty boring in some scenes. Plus, it's kind of long. Overall it's pretty good, but it could have been better, if they made this movie in the seventies it would have been better i think. |

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing 1955, Unrated)
Love really is a many splendored thing, but you wouldn't know it by seeing this movie. Jones plays a woman doctor who's part Chinese and falls in love with an American guy, but she keep stressing over the fact that she's part Chinese as if that should keep them apart somehow, I mean no one can tell she's part Chinese so who cares? This movie got on my nerves. |
