Conan the Barbarian 2011, R)
Better than i thought it might be and indeed more gory as i was under the impression this was pg/12a rated, the film looked pretty good and throughout there are some entertaining action beats, not all of it gels together and there are indeed problems with its conan star played by Jason Momoa, kinda a different aproach to schwarzenegger, hes more or less a pretty boy, but he holds it enough |

The Incredible Hulk 1977, Unrated)
This entertaining tv movie pilot started the famous show from the 70s we all know and love and introduced the world to Lou Ferrigno. this is a decent atempt, of course there are many flaws and cheapness to it, but it sets up whasts to come okay, it doesnt come off as silly as those Captain America versions around the same time and its clear to see wqhy this would be picked up for episodes. interestinly this was also released in theatres. as was the way in those days. |

Jack Goes Boating 2010, R)
Phillip Seymour hoffman directs for the first time here, and while its not mind blowing it has some nice touches and at its heart a interesting charactor in hoffmans performance also Amy Ryan and John Ortiz are good watches. a indie drama which comes like many others and good to see Hoffman go down this root. |

Win Win 2011, R)
Another great role for Paul Giamatti here a small town lawyer taking on a client as a legal caretaker, but purely for the money he would get from it, once he puts the guy into a home, the grandson turns up, and again he takes him in, but only when it apears he has a talent for wrestling and can help the team he coaches out. it all plays well throughout and there is a charm to it all, McCarthy directed The station agent which i really liked and there is a lot of drama and humour coming across the both in same way, a worthy drama while it can get serious its always light throughout. |

Hunky Dory 2012, Unrated)
Minnie Driver does a credible job and a decent welsh acent here as a teacher getting together a school play in the south wales summer of 1976, the film coming of like Glee at times but with some drama through it all, all the young cast give good work, and the scenes of song add much emotion, the look alsio has a fantastic nostalgic 70s look to it all, a entertaining film with much goiing for ikt. |

Wanderlust 2012, R) |

Project X 2012, R)
Another camcorder filmed(minus concept of found footage) footage film, and aniother which i loved, this actually makes more sense than any other, the concept of camcorders and other forms makes sense here, and doesent ask the question..Why are they still filming ? its a party obviously, they are not being chased by monsters or zombies. the concept is fantastic concerning 2 friends and their friend and his birthday and getting to throw a party at his house, once in it desends from there, and it works brilliantly all the hallmarks of parties on film are represented, but here we see the beginnings of one to eventual carnage, and when this moves alonmg to that sex, nudity, violence, carnage and more its a exiting time, the films moves at a great pace and all leads bring something, coming off spoiled loveable and annoying. great moments throughout, the setting which is the house comes off great and the sounhdtrack is amazing and fits perfectly, this is Superbad turned up to 11, i love these camcorder films and this is a great example of how many things can work. |

POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold 2011, PG-13)
The film is a bit muddled on its subject matter, and in a way its a matter of a snake eating itself, here looking at marketing of products the biggest focus being movies, and here Spurlock will raise the financing by getting product placement in his doc, and here in the doc we see him trying and failing in some cases to get the products, its lighthearted and its a fun watch, the topics he brings up are interesting but a lot of times the aproach isnt handled greatly, i felt more focus on the products in movies should have been more hammered home, but when he gets into schools and advertising there, it looses much focus, but the doc is never dull, and anyone that enjoys his work, will get more out of it. a curious atempt with humour coming off well. |

The Girl in the Café (The Girl in the Cafe) 2005, Unrated)
A great watch for Bill knightly here playing a withdrawn man working for the British goverment off to Iceland for G8 summit. but before that he meets a young atractive woman in a cafe, played nicely by Kelly Macdonald, and ends up connecting and taking her along to Iceland. what comes off as a relationship drama comes off really well as political commentary on G8 dealings in 2005 towards poverty in Africa, a topic the countries are tackling here or indeed trying to bury it. the two leads work very well together and keep it going, a political lesson that sneaks in when you dont expect it. |

The Bride of Frankenstein 1935, Unrated) |

| 11 |
Hostel: Part III 2011, R)
Eli Roth is absent and the the Las Vegas setting sort of takes away the Dumb americans abroad commentary. but the concept of the company at the heart of it all seenb in the first two is a interesting one and the film with its charactors throws in some good plot twists, the gore is not as gruesome but gruesome enough to warrant squirms. |
|
| 12 |
Death Wish 2 1982, R)
A pretty good sequel, now set in L.a after being told to get out of Newyork in the first. the set up is coincidence to get it going but the tone certainly fits in with the first, from there a great pace gets it going as he focuses on the gang that rapes his housekeepere vthen kills his kid. some great violence setting tone and Bronson has some presence |
|

Rampart 2012, R)
A powerful performance from Harrelson here reteaming with director Oren Moverman who directed him in the messenger(ive not seen this, aparently its good) a on the edge cop, whom when we meet is already some sort of celebrity cop due to a investigation, and events coming to him again here involving a beating up of a citizen when both in a car crash. many personal problems on show while this is going on, this film plays well and shows a interesting time in the LAPD rampart department, some interesting directing choices going on and able support from other cast members, Harrelson has great stuff to show off, and playing a corrupt cop he is a great choice. |
|
| 14 |
Safe House 2012, R)
For the most part this is exiting and really enjoyable, 2 leads putting in great work and working well together, well made action sequences set in and around Cape town south Africa adding great viewing, the story is typical action pinpoints and not deep, it does loose it towards the end too much tropes coming in and it does go on for a bit to long and overstays its welcome a bit. but overall exiting stuff and its never dul or boreing. |

| 15 |
Abduction 2011, PG-13)
This is what it is, its enjoyable fluff and perfectly fine for a viewing to kill your time, it runs good and action beats throughout are lively. Taylor Lautner is a charisma vacume but this doesent realy need depth, Team jacob fans will love him, his shirtless scenes stink of this,. the plot is typical of these things, double crossing, no one to trust and so on, but its enjoyable. |

8 Million Ways To Die 1985, R)
Some over the top moments( the shouting match at pier hanger towards end is a classic headache, but fun, 80s through and through, with a passable dudecop performance from Bridges, its just enjoyable 80s nostalgia, first time seeing it now. Andy Garcia is a laughable bad guy early in career, but Rosanna Arquette looks hot as hell, she always was. dont think to much and put your 80s head on, its passable fluff |

The Final Countdown 1980, PG)
A film from the 80s, that does come across tounge in cheek at times. that asks the question "if a navy vessel went back to pearl harbor hours before the attack, going back in time, what would happen ?. and it comes off pretty good. Kirk Douglas as the captain is great to watch along with his team trying to get to grasps with what the hell is going on. And Martin Sheen a inspector on board with thoughts to give a enjoyable watch also. Katharine Ross looking beautiful, and Charles Durning, i believe playing a real life charactor that disapeared a day later due to beliefs they knew. the usual time travel t5hings cdome into it, should we/shouldnt we do anything. it comes of good, and interesting. the film runs along nicely and at times out top guns top gun 6 years before. it has some good production value going on, and although dodgy things come into it, its perfectly fine for a concept i like. |

The Stuff 1985, R)
A fun 80s horror id say not taking itself seriously at all, and at the centre of it all a superb performance from Michael Moriarty, you watch this guy and think, is he bad, or hilariously good. The Stuff of the title is a dessert hitting it big, becoming the number 1 food of choice but taking over people, and a bigger plan in motion, the film of course set in the 80s tackles to a degree consumer want and corporate dealings in a hilarious way obviously. some good 80s gore on show. and the stuff itself coming off silly but great. do not take this seriously and much to enjoy. |

A Dangerous Method 2011, R)
Firstly on a digital screen this film looks absolutely fantastic, Vienna and many placesa coming off beautifuly, also everything else about it, so for that top marks, the performances themself are also great, possibly a bit weak at times though was Knightley, but at times good. Mortensen as freud did solid work, and Fassbender As Carl jung doing great work. the first half is quite solid work, but it reaklly fell flat for me the 2nd half, a bit muddled at trimes also, buyt througfhout there are moments to savour and it does get into the heads of these conflicting minds and showing what was to come in the medical word of psycho analyst. a interesting atempt but definatly a film of two halfs |
|

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close 2012, PG-13)
Many pointing fingers have been thrown towards the academy, with such comments as "they nominated this without watching it and so on. Well i point my fingers at these p[eople and saying, Are you blindly judgeing this film having not seen it then pointing fingers at them because films like Drive was not there ???. i liked this and i was hooked throughout. sept 11 heavy and a big part of the story, a film about a young lad and the loss of his father, and a task that takes place months after his death on that day. a film that relies on the lead, here played by Thomas Horn, hes brilliant. the film has hidden depth and the further it goes, key points make more sense, some heartbreaking moments also. 911 always brings a lump to the throat and many moments here, and it doesnt feel like its here because it would feel more inportant, its one side of the story and vital. a film about tthe loss of a familoy member ands what it means, great direction throught, very inventive. Stephen daldry doing great things here, he brought Billy elliot to the screen,. heavy handed ? maybe life afirming ? definatly. |

Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo 2009, Unrated)
A doc that focuses on japans onsession with insects, here we get a glimpse into the lives of ordinary people fasination with insects as pets to the industry itself and the people whom make money catching these creatures, its all loosely told more visual than hard facts. it comes off great at times. seeiong the industry created through this is fun to see. and the doc overall shows a japan of today while delving into its past to compare. a interesting doc that certainly wont be for everyone,m and a cover and tile is no monster movie. |

Hesher 2011, R)
Some good acting on show. Levitt is interesting as Heher and Brouchu as the troubled teen also. at times you question the reality this film is in thanks to the Hesher charactor at least from certain points of view so thats always popping up, the film plays well at times, and the indie feel working to a degree, with some great tunes from metallica anmd so on. Portman is a bit wasted and Wilson is okay. a film that could be better but wiorth a watch |
|
| 25 |
Sleeping Beauty 2011, Unrated)
A curiosity and at times a lot in here, Emily Browning at times gives it her all, and throughout she is a good watch, some scenes towards the last half showing what a actor has act when doingh absolutely nothing, there are some cringe worthy scenes there. a film that doesent fully explain everything come the final creditrs, but some nice touches on the subject coming up. |
|
| 26 |
The Muppets 2011, PG)
Are the Muppets relevent anymore ? thats one of the points to this film in story and charactor. this film also will play well to fans growing up with the show(i remember watching in some form shows back in the 80s. lots of hints to the past and the future and getting the gang together and pull of a show. a new Muppet who is a lifelong fan and madly in love with the muppets, is our eyes in the story and this for me was a great idea, along for the ride with him Jason siegel, and Amy adams(weakest part of the film she is) the story is self aware and plays well at times with that in mind, many jokes towards the plot and movie convenience will add valuye to adults in which there is much already. Chris cooper on bad guy duties is there but it doesnt really matter its just there to add plot, this is the muppets and we get plenty of them, even though Quite a few numbers are Muppetless, 2 are fantastic. and adds plenty. the final show once it gets on is fantastic and reminds of the show as seen on tv. that comes of great. there is much to enjoy even though bad elements come in, Siegel and Adams towartds end goes off a bit, but lucky we still have the muppets. a joy for kids and adults and doing away with that concept they had for a while(Christmas carol, Muppets in space) this film is hoping the muppets will be relevent, and they have suceeded. |

The Woman in Black 2012, PG-13)
A enjoyable Haunted house film that does its scares well, using silence and creepyness a lot of the time, and a good knowledge of the house coming in well. its been much cririsised about Radcliff looking young, and yes he does, but, once you get past this, he works and puts good work in, he by no means will win a oscar but he puts his all in, and shows the right role he could hold his own. the film also being a Hammer productiion brings a lot of those past films to this, the setting looks wonderful and very creepy and some great production value going on. i was never bored and always unaware where a shock could be coming from. a great suprise |

F for Fake 1973, Unrated)
A curious doc, but not a doc, a film about fakes told in a very bold way, but with Orson welles, here coming of superb and a fantastic watch, narrating, presenting and interacting throughout, delving into certain types of fakes seen in his lifetime, mainly focusing on a artist who was known as a forger and author on his tail, whom himself possibly a faker, and also delving into certain times of howard hughes and his dealings, the two interact nicely and welles direction and style fitting within, it has a charm and his powerful mischife voice adding plenty, he is a watch. a unconventional doc, using many methods to tell its story. |

The Most Dangerous Game 1932, Unrated)
A film of its time, and coming in just over a hour(normal in those days) the story is really good and ceretainly coming from the 30s the print, at least this one looks pretty bad. some great visuals going on and production value. the film has things to say and while the acting seems not great today, it was a sign of that time. many versions of this story is available and id be interested in seeking therm out, if i havent already. |

Mildred Pierce 1945, Unrated)
I recently saw the Hbo mini series which runs at 5 hours so i was interested to see a 2 hours version from the 40s, there are indeed diferences, a murder being in here, for example, the film is well played and definatly a product of its time, Joan crawford is very good, and while 40s stageindg comes into play its a fine film. |

3 Women 1977, PG)
2 fantastic performances, and 2 charactors that are plain weird, one overbearing to her new friend/roommate, the other young inocent but a bit of a wild one in her head in spacek. the story which relies on the two throughout shows a very interesting relationship about women. a great look and altman direction, 70s was a fantastic time for him, and im still discovering it. |

XXY 2007, Unrated)
Story revolving around a 15 year old girl, living with her parents and in preperation for a big procedure medically. and one great tip here, the less you know, one scene will come out so much better. a interesting atempt to show a child becoming a adult but with circumstances that will change her life forever and take her forward in life. |

Albatross 2012, Unrated)
A enjoyable coming of age drama concerning 2 new found friends one a wild 18 year old getting a clkeaner job at the hotel where the other oxford wannabee lives, here a young up and coming Felicity jones. the two bounce well off each other and both have a interesting story revolving around the family at hotel. its well acted and runs nicely. |

Guilty Of Romance (Koi No Tsumi) 2011, Unrated)
Another twisted tale of sex and murder in the east and here Tokyo. a story of a housewife devoted to making her husband very happy by making the home and services perfect, although there is a problem, hes away all day and its sexless and void of emotion, and its here she decides to get out there, and working fiunds her wild side especially concerening sex, and eventually gets involved with very seedy charactors, the main perrformance is fantastic and crazy moments do kep it going, it is a bit long at times but overall very interesting. |

Chronicle 2012, PG-13)
Shot footage film time once more, and this i enjoyed also, the concept is up there with the best of them, and while once more the concept of everyone holding cameras leed to silly scenes at times(why still filming, why answer door filming and so on) there is also fresh ways of dealing with it, power to have camera floating with main guy at times is genius and this film has foiund a fresh aproach that i adore. as story proceeds so does the eff3ects on show and obstacles for the kids, there are moments of genius. Flying for example, could well be up there for moments of the year even though this early, and come final outcome a cliomax as big as cloverfield in spectacle, i could very well watch more chronicle films but where can you go with found footage films, REC worked but not ewverything can, heres hoping |

The Grey 2012, R)
Contender for coldest film of the year and another showcasing Neesons newfound love for action, This is by no means a action film, but a survival film, and hunter becoming the hunted as a small number of passengers crash in the wilderness, and once aware ofv the surroundings realise they are not alone and being watched by very hungry and defending their territory pack of wolfs. it all comes off rather well at times, a few shocks that are fantastic. Neeson playing a man overcoming loss is great also, the film becoming his journey there have beenb grumbles about trailor not being film andc so on, but what i expected i got. man trying to survive from wolves, it was plain to see. |

Man on a Ledge 2012, PG-13)
A cinema escape, its not brilliant, it has flaws as big as the diamond that is behind it all, and to much going on, but its nicely put together, has a good pace and its not really outstaying its welcome, but unfortunatly the final chunk, brings obserd questions about justice and motives and so much , it falls apart which is a shame for what went before was a nice ride |

Young Adult 2011, R)
Diablo cody has said that to a degree this is her, and i can see that, wether this went on i cant say but it was a interesting starting point. Charlie Theron does a good turn and probely some of the best ive seen her do, even though she has been in better films overall. she has a lot to do and a unlikeable charactor at times shes great at doing. the story itself does have problems and is a typical indie all over, but the film relies on her totally and thats good enough |
|
| 41 |
Carnage 2011, R)
I like when a stage play gets the movie treatment, especially when its one setting and all dialogue, this film is no exeption, a 4 hander with 4 great turns, Jodie foster and John cRiley as one couple and Christoph waltz and Kate winslet the other meeting at a apartment to discuss a fight that broke out between each others sons, frtom the get go, snarky remarks get it going as conversation runs and it moves along nicely, at only 80 minutes it fills its time well, its tough to pick a favourite as they all brinmg something to the table and all gel to get the conversations going. some great humour rises from this also and some moments that make certain charactors not so nice and they all gfet this at some point. great direction from Polanski also, certainly the opening and closing scenes remind of Woody allen and indeed things throughout. a simple story and setting that runs nicely and shows well charactors coming to a boil. |
|
| 42 |
The Descendants 2011, R)
At its centre a emotional heart and a story of family coming to terms with a loss of a family member, here wife and mother in a coma, but due to her wishes will be let go, Clooney brilliant as the husband/father, trying to juggle business and raising of his two daughters through this ordeal. but a crippling blow of news questions his standings and emotions to the soon to be deceased, in the form of news breaking out, she recently had a affair and was at a point of divorce, all this comes across in a very dramatic way but throughout light humour pushing its charactors and story forward. Clooney certaqinly knows how to pick roles and this is another great one for him, also great is Shailene Woodley as the teenage daughter bringing much to the story. Hawaii looks fantastic and apart from those famous LOST mountain ranges(see also Jurassic park) its a Hawaii ive not seen and it indeeds captures that place well, sad at times and certainly knows how to use this with some very fuuny punchy dialogue bringing it to a close, a good watch. |
|
| 43 |
Martha Marcy May Marlene 2011, R)
A star is born in Elizabeth Olsen showing she has acting chops all over and puts her sisters uder the table, also takinmg on a chalengeing role, swhe is so great in this and certainly look forward to more from here. here following a you confused woman escapeing a cult and living back with her distant sister, we switch back and fourth to the two times and the film shows how she replaces one life for a safer one but those problems and teachings wont go away, the two worlds are well handled and Olsen a lot of emotion to role, the film has things to say and brings this across well. |
|
| 44 |
Perfect Sense 2012, R)
Contagion Scariest realistic film of the year ????. no, this is, the question is asked and explored, "what would happen if our senses started going, possibly one by one, it starts off with mild panic as people of Britain start losing their smell, as experts start exploring this phenonemon, restaurant cook Mcgregor meets one of those experts whilst on a break as she lives behind restaurant, as phenomenon grows so does the relationship, but the predicament is getting bigger and chaos around the globe escalates not to mention fear of other senses going. the film brings up many interesting questions, it must be a fear people have, what would we do, Mcgreegors restaurant cook we see fully the effects, from nobody dining to eventuall new recipes, the film flows with what if as film goes on and eventual other senses going, We know what these senses are as a viewer, and this keeps the interest going as we know what the eventual one will be, a film that made me think in many ways and of course having a fear of a certain one going, this daunted me deeply. but on top of this the film is well made with 2 great performances from Mcgregor and Green. the film shows what could happen well, and lets face it, highly possible as far as im concerned. a well made film. |

Rolling Thunder 1977, R)
70s revenge, it starts off great, a returning home vet missing in action for many years, adjusting to life a local celebrity but family life falling apart, a robbery goes wrong, wife and kid killed, he vows revenge, his charactor is very interesting, years of torture and once home his wife not wantinmg him anymore, leaves him quite emotionless, but loyalty gets him going, and third half taking in revenge with a young woman in tow does drag a bit, but once shes gone and hes taking Tomy lee jones his fellow army buddy to take revenge, a blody climax thrills in that 70s way. William Devane is very good here, as is a young Tommy lee jones, when on screen, good action beats and that 70s vibe keeping it going. |

| 47 |
Night of The Living Dead: Reanimated 2009, Unrated)
A curious what is warranted, the classic Romero film gets animated scene by scene, beat by beat, but not just one animation style, but many styles, from crude plasticine, original footage made up, to very authentic comic panels, some work better than others, and sometimes many seem unwanted, at times a piece will intrude with much better ones, but at the end of it all, it comes together and it woirks to a degree. it is interesting how some animation adds somethings, so a interesting watch, and im not sure what true Night of the living dead fans would think, Im trying to think what id feel if Taxi driver was done this way, and im up for that. definatly a film worth a watch to see a experiment. |

Die Tür (The Door) 2009, Unrated)
A magical door lets a grieving father who was at fault in his kids death, go back 5 years to the house he lived and scene of the death, but whilst saving the kid, he also kills his past self and proceeds to live the life of his former self, but there could be darker forces at work come the final credit. this is entertaining and certainly a cool concept, there are flaws and sometimes doesnt totally come together, but also handled well at times so a entertaining watch and worthy of a watch. |

The Woman 2011, R)
What a fantastic suprise to come upon. Aparantly its a follow up to a film called The offspring, and knowing this, the beginning makes sence now, even though still not seen that film) this film plays like a american idie about a suburban family with its sewt of problems, The two kids we see in school arer not normal. and a dull suburban experience adding to life. then one day the father goes hunting in the woods that surround the property, he comes upon a woman who very wild in her ways, he returns and captures her, clears out their basement and keeps her captured, this is where it takes another turn, he gets the family involved to look after her, and it comes off wonderfully, through this the family problems continue in school and at home all the while this wild woman is hoping to get free. the film plays on these two elements perfectly, not quite torture pawn, but certainly horror slasher elements coming into play, and home values back at the house, the film also has wit and a fantastic soundtrack, and come the final climax great gore and certainly not playing it safe. this film could have been so diferent and indeed two films strung together perfectly. a fantastic indie/slasher watch. |

Everything Must Go 2011, R)
One of Will Ferrell's more dramatic roles and it suits him well, he has a lot to play with and the story and setting engageing. the story of a husband returning home jobless and finding his possessions on his fronmt lawn and locked out, he decides to stay there while contemplating his way to go, while getting back into drinking. obviously kids will put this on and hate it because its not Step brothers which is a shame, as it shows once more what he can pull off. |
|

Melancholia 2011, R)
The end of the world from Lars Von Trier and focusing on a very small group of people, here 2 sisters, the first half focusing on Dunst and her wedding and dealing with depression, her sister trying to get big day off without a hitch. then once Melancholiais known we cut to the sisters and the other sister played by Charlotte gainsburg as she gets to grips with possible destruction of planet and husband saying there is no way, through this diunst watches on without a care. the film looks fantastic and great visuals at times, the structure style of acting comes of as von trier all over and certainly not to everyones taste, but i loved Dogville and like that, theres a lot in here. worthy of a watch most definatly |

George Harrison: Living In The Material World 2011, Unrated)
Martin Scorsese delves into music once more for this fasinating doc on the beatle, After covering bands such as The Band, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, Scorsese shows his enthusiasm, and if you didnt know that you would watching his films with great music cuts. here we see Harrison beatle years and his eventual solo, with the frustrations arising, his spiritual beliefs and to eventual passing with many beats inbetween. Scorsese makes some great cues from the wealth of Beatles and solo stuff and lots of archive footage and Taped interviews both old and new, im sure its been gloossed over at times and genuin fans will know this, but for the casaual Beatle fan like me, this 3 and a half hour doc is plenty to chew on. |

The Interrupters 2011, Unrated)
violent times in chicago, and a organisation trying to promote piece and getting into the thick of the areas which it effects most, the black areas where its a way of life. all shot around the area with interviews, its not fantastic but gives you a glimpse of that world. and after recently watching The Wire, im glad to see that series got certain things right in terms of subject matters brought up here. |

71 Fragmente einer Chronologie des Zufalls (71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance) 1994, Unrated)
Based on true life events in early 90s, this film follows the victims ordinary lives, all of which are not connected, before the fatal shootout at a bank, and imediatly later gunman killing himself. all the stories hold interest, and some more than others, its from Michael Haneke, so themes again pop up here that you seem to get from him. The media, tv culture and violence, it works well, while not entirely suceeds but holds more than enough to warrant a watch and Hanake is a interesting filmmaker |
|
| 55 |
Benny's Video 1992, Unrated)
Michael Haneke brings similer themes once again in this early 90s effort, focusing on a lonely boy fasinated by video footage, especially the putting down of a Pig on his parents farm, his daily ritual to video shop starts events involving these elements. the film deals well with the eventual portrayal of the parents dealings with the kid, and indeed the kid and his daily life at home and school, Haneke shows and not for the first or last time, his interest with footage and its consequences. a very interesting film thats up there with others like Funny games |

Diected by Madonna, this in a way could be a companion piece to the exellent The Kings speech, here focusing in on king edward and his eventuall leaving of the throne. a well handled story while not entirely sucessful due to a modern day setting with Abbie cornidh whos very much star struck by the events. the film shows light on the whole affair, which had been glimpsed before. a interesting atempt by Madonna at directing |

J. Edgar 2011, R)
Dicaprio once again shows his moody sturn acting and he is a engageing watch, his younger and older J edgar, the timeline which focuses on more things than others is also interesting filling in some points in history inportant to the u.s from the F.B.I perspective. but one major problem, Armie Hammer, not his younger self, hes a good watch there, but the make up years is terribly bad and laughable. it spoils the film, which i was enjoying which it seems more than others. so a major flaw that does spoil the film, but not enough to warrant it bad, leo is great, Eastwood gives it a look i love, and like The Channgling looks fantastic for the period, Eastwood is most definatly getting on now, but going strong. |

Coriolanus 2011, R)
Ralph fiennes is a fantastic watch as Caius Martius and directing this also, a Shakespeare adaption and another optinmg for the modern day setting while sticking to text faithfully, set in the rome of Shakespeare time but clearly filmed in a diferent enviroment altogether, the setting helps a lot and the story very engageing. the trouble with Shakespeare text is sometimes you get lost so easily, and this is no diferent, but all actors cope well, even Gerald Butler whom was one i thought could fail, but hes a good watch here al;so. Fiernnes performes great emotions with his face and hes perfect casting, his directing also is handled well. |

Haywire 2012, R)
Steven Soderberg bounces around genres once again, he keeps churning them out, and while there are hit and misses, you also get great suprises like The informant and this. a action/thriler flick with Gina carano starring who hereself a non actor, he uses her greatly in some action scenes and it does show, the plot is nopt the fantastic part about this, but the direction most definatly is and top that off with a superb soundtrack bt David holmes, if you liked the out of sight and Oceans eleven soundtrack, youi'll know what will come. great support also from great talent. Fassbender, Mcgregor Paxton, Douglas and Tatum, some great set pieces like the Dblin scenes are exellent and Soderdberg shows fantastic direction at times. this proves once again, hes a master at picking projects while not ouitstanding, he doesnt do crap. |

Red State 2011, R)
Kevin Smith reinvents himself certainly in style plot and pace, but certainly some themes have run in other of his films, Dogma in terms of religion, and this is a pretty slick film, it hits a lot of beats, and a 85 minute running time well handled and never outstays its welcome. Smith has said, this is his second from last film as director, a Hockey film being his last at some point, im guessing that may well go back to similer themes of the view askew universe, but goiunmg by this, its a shame as this film shows he can most definatly move away from his comfort zone of Jay and Bob, and that universe and create a well crafted film, with depth and exitment. |

Two-Lane Blacktop 1971, R)
70s road movie, unconventional at times especially once outcome of film, the main focus, 2 men roam the country racing for money and to pay their way, thiungs take a turn in their story with two events, the picking up of a young attractive hitchiker, and a guy they havew been following closely who also seems capable of a good race, once they encounter, a race is bet on in return of the others car as winnings, its here the film works diferently, and its certainly interesting, as the two guysa with women in tow, go about this race that doesnt seem to be happening, with personal intrusions coming into play, the film certainly fits its 70s time with films like this, possibly Easy rider being a influence to some degree, and while film isnt flawless its a curious watch |

The Whistleblower 2010, R)
Rachel Weisz, in a good enough film to warrant a watch, focusing on a police officer going off to work for the U.N and uncovering sex trafficing, but also possible U.N involvment, this film which is based on true events brings up some enjoyable and informative moments Weisz a good watch, and holds the movie. |

Project Nim 2011, PG-13)
a doc that shows the story in the 70s, where a team tried a experiment with a newborn chimp, to see if it can be brought up as human, it looks at that, the eventual outcome and what unfolded, with plenty of archive footage to keep it fasinating and the interviews with the handlers engageing, truthful thoughts about each other and experiment coming out. in the year of Rise of Planet of the apes, the themes are very similer, and be |

The Secret World of Arrietty 2012, G)
Studio Giabli, Brings another beautiful story to the screen, Im guessing this is based on the classic tale The Borrowers, they are called Borrowers, and in general follows that Concept, but with this studio it brings its own unique look inbto this world, beautiful at times and a fantastic soundtrack when needed, it has the mad Japanes lady when its needed with menace, and the relationships are greatly handled. great stuff coming from this lot. |

War Horse 2011, PG-13)
The spielberg smalts factor up to 11, but so much more also, great Spielberg moments, Spielberg comedy, a emotional John williams score, the kid you say wasnt great, but you get over that, as the horse takes the stage and many fasntastic scenes to chew on, the ww1 setting looks great, and a fantastic war scenr which reminds of Private ryan, a emotional Spielberg which while nowhere near his best, brings many spielberg moments to table |

The Artist 2011, PG-13)
A silent movie but technically not, as i feel its more inspired by, as techniques are used at times that dont fall under silent film, but all beautifully done, everything comes together wonderfully, the look is fantastic, and indeed story taking in the fall of the silent era into talkies, it brings up many interesting points and also a loving tale to that period, the nostalgia feel is great , the silent stuff, especially seeing in a cinema, works also, and great to see a full cinema totaaly for it like myself. not sure what sucess of this might do, More silent ? i dont doubt it. but i cant see doing as great as this. |

Margin Call 2011, R)
Set during the early stages of the financial crises and a investment bank, and how they start the ball rolling, as the film plays ethic come into play and the way this company is gonna put everyone in it to save themselves, this film gets across well what went down at the time and gives varied details showing how and why, im not sure if this is a totally fictionised acount or based on fact, at least in terms of how and who. but come the end it certainly pin points directly and judges these people greatly, which lets admit, a lot of people felt. |

Shame 2011, NC-17)
Michael Fassbender is fantistic in his role here, living in newyork and suffering from sex adiction, trying to get about his day, work and social. adding to things is his trouibled sister played by Carey Mulligan, the film tales us places and followes his anguish closely, Steve McQueen again directs Fassnender after the Hunger again with Fassbender, a good partnership here, hope they do more. Fassbender is proveing with film after film hes a force to be recond with, and even though hes done great before, this could well get him a oscar nomination and known reconition. |

Goon 2012, R)
William scott looks weird buffed up, but it suits his role here in a at times very funny and entertaining comedy which is inspired by a true story, the vilolence on the ice is inventively done and gory when it wants to be, and the story runs well. the film runs along briskly and yes as always a bit of sentimentality comes in but the comedy outweighs it. |

Weekender 2011, Unrated)
A look back at the 90s rave culture in Manchester, and 2 up for it guys starting their own raves but getting involved with the bad elements jusat as much as the good times, the film runs along nicely and although its heavy handed at times, which cover doesnt show, it knows when to show fun and the good times of that period |

Trust 2010, R)
The perils of online chat and the consequences towards the 14 year old involved and family members. Clive owen is the father who cannot cope or understand whats going down when he finds out and F.B.I investigation continues, and a terrific Liana Liberto as Annie the daughter in question, the film does come off as tv movie of the week at times but there are interesting topics and motives brought up throughout. |

Kill the Irishman 2011, R)
Thisi film gets better as it goes along, the beginning didnt grab me, and Val kilmer whom i thought wasnt vital to story seemed to be moping about, but once Ray stevenson as Danny greene(the irishman of the story, a true life cleveland criminal) gets going it gets interesting a great deal, a american irish dock worker making his way up to union boss then pissing off the italian gangsters that run the unions, from here a war in cleveland breaks, this being around 1976/77. many mob members on both sides lost their lives during this time, and the outcome made a big dent in the mob in the u.s. the film works well bringing all charactors togetrher and although not as polished as a scorsese mob film, it holds up Stevenson is solid as Danny and keeps film going. |

A enjoyable 70s horror, not fantastic but it has some slick moments throughout, and a definite feel to it all, the concept is a bit silly at times but also hints at something bigger in another dimension, ive not seen sequels, i hope to, maybe that will be explored ?. a creepy villain also helping things along, enjoyed. |

Cave of Forgotten Dreams 2010, G)
Werner Herzog has a fasinating narration as always, and this doc is a interesting watch, delving into the mysteries of the caves discovered. caves so fragile that only a select few can go there, Herzog being invited by the french goverment a major coup for him, fasinating stuff goiing on inside the caves, the drawings and formations of caves and its evolution coming across well, while delving into how those people may have lived and other mysteries, while outside cave, a informative watch and again showing herzogs talent concerning topics like this. |
