Phenomenal.

Inception 2010,  PG-13)
Inception
I revise my review on Inception. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it. Maybe it is the constant glorifying of director Christopher Nolan, the confusing plot, Leonardo's pudgy face, his pudgy face, the lack of landscape in the film. Whatever it is, it has pushed down my rating of Inception. Perhaps it is a bit of social rebellion

Black Swan
Great film. It presents its ideas of symbolism in such a literal manner it is hard not to love this movie. It feels like indulging in some guilty pleasure.

The King's Speech 2010,  PG-13)
The King's Speech
"The King's Speech" is a movie by director Tom Hooper about King George VI of Britain, played masterfully by Colin Firth, during his toughest hour during his ascension to the throne. George has a speech impediment that he must get over if he is ever to be worthy of the throne. He seeks the help of a speech therapist played by Geoffrey Rush whose methods are "unorthodox and controversial." This is an excellent film which exceeds expectations in all areas.

The first thing that I was impressed with was the cinematography, which was done with a more modern approach including up-close shots of the characters, most noticeably of Firth and Carter in the elevator scene as they arrive at their speech therapist's office. Other scenes that I thought were interesting were the steady moving shots of Firth as he walked with Carter and Rush. The cinematography offered a new perspective which helped the material to feel fresh and relevant to today. I was glad to hear Alexandre Desplat refrain from his usual light tinkering of strings and expand from his usual soundtrack score. The soundtrack was great!

It was nice to see Helena Bonham Carter playing a normal role again and her hair put together. Colin Firth did an amazing job. It will not be a surprise to see him win an Oscar for this role, especially after his nomination last year for his profound performance in the movie "A Single Man". But I think the performance that really stands out in this film is that of Geoffrey Rush. He portrayed his character with such eloquence, humor and ease that he will never be forgotten. I am rooting for Geoffrey Rush to win the Oscar for "Best Supporting Actor" this year!

All in all "The King's Speech" was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. The actors were at their best and the film was pulled off remarkably well.
