Certainly one of the smartest science-fiction/horror films released in recent memory alongside it's easily comparable counterparts 28 Days Later and Diary of the Dead. However like those two films and most that fit under the very broad sci-fi/horror/fantasy banner, District 9 suffers throughout from script problems and badly directed performances, significantly lessening the impact of the interesting allegory put forth by the film's premise. But again, this is a great piece of direction and a very entertaining and well designed movie. One of the best of the summer. |
