A very good love story with fine acting. Some seem to question the whole time travel side of it a bit too much and it may confuse some. It's a great story and quite similar to Sandra Bullock's other recent film Premonition. |

Tagged as an old school American horror this definitely felt like watching an older horror film along the lines of Friday the 13th. However mixed with some very over the top gore from more recent horror films and you get this. Featuring cameos from Robert Englund, Tony Todd and Kane Hodder. There are plenty of jokes, gore and all the other ingredients that horror fans love about slasher films in this. |

Not the greatest of films to watch, but due to the fact it is based on one of the most shocking events in recent history makes it compelling viewing. It's not ladden with tons of news footage from the day but caputures the shock and scale of what happened very well. |

Bloodrayne 2006, R)
Another pretty bad Uwe Boll film, but not his worst! Had a lot of promise with a strong cast and based on a cool vampire hack and slash game. However this is pretty poor, none of the "stars' give a half decent performance and the fight choreography is very lame compared to most films of today, no energy or passion, very slow. There is a fair bit of blood, a Meat Loaf cameo and half decent CGI and that is it! Stick with Blade! |

Lucky Number Slevin 2006, R) |

Turistas (Paradise Lost) 2006, R)
A very good horror, although not as scary or gory as I thought it was going to be. Similar theme to hostel in that some backpacking tourists run into trouble off the beaten track and soon wish they never left home. If you liked Hostel or the Texas chainsaw massacre remake this is similar to those in many ways. |

Running Scared 2005, R) |

Unknown 2006, R)
A very good if short thriller about 5 guys who wake up in a warehouse with short term memory loss. They deduct that 2 of them are hostages and 3 are kidnappers, but who is who? |

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane 2006, R)
I'm really surprised at a lot of the average reviews for this. Maybe the hardcore horror fans were expecting a lot more gore, higher death toll, or maybe it's because this doesn't even feel like a true horror film. However I really enjoyed it and felt it was quite original with a great ending. It does remind me of another film with a similar ending but can't remember it right now. This is a very good film, well shot, with a good cast and a rememberable ending! |

Pan's Labyrinth 2006, R)
A very enjoyable film, that is well directed and has all round good production levels. It's almost like two films in one running side by side. It would have been a bit more interesting to see more of the fantasy characters and their world in which they live in. The film can be quite bloody and violent at times to which was a surprise, this is definitely for an adult audience. |

The Devil Wears Prada 2006, PG-13) |

| 84 |
The Break-Up 2006, PG-13)
A very funny Rom-com without being too soppy. A lot of funny scenes that both sexes should enjoy as a couple try to get back at each other over their break up. A film many will relate to as the plans to out do each other keep escalating all the time as neither want to leave their apartment. Have to say though I think Jennifer had a body double for the nude scene, well some of it! Similar to War of the roses, What happens in Vegas. |

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties 2006, PG)
A surprisingly good part animated comedy based on the Garfield comic strip. I liked this one more than the first one. This has plenty of other animals being voiced over by a range of well known actors including Bob Hoskins as a British bulldog and Vinnie Jones as a rottweiler, what else? With Bill Murray voicing Garfield. Perfect for kids and older fans of Garfield. |

Employee of the Month 2006, PG-13) |

Perfect Creature 2006, R)
I really thought I would like this. It has a good idea for a story with a vampire race living along side humans in an alternate world. That was one of the let downs as the alternate world is like a mish mash of Victorian times mixed with 60's technology, steam powered cars? Why this setting? Could have been a lot better along the line of Underworld, Equilibrium.....but falls way short. |

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan 2006, R)
A very funny film showing the cultural divide between the two countries. Some of it is a bit gross, in poor taste but mainly just plain silly. It can be a bit hit and miss at times. Although the scenes and reactions of some of the people he meets on his journey are very funny, very hard to believe they generally took him seriously! |

The Pumpkin Karver 2006, R)
One of those really low budget, cheesy slasher films that are so bad they almost become quite good in a funny way. Looked liked it was made in the 80's not 2006, maybe that was on purpose? Silly story, bad effects, hammy acting make this good for a laugh rather than a scare. For low budget slasher fans only! |
|
| 98 |
Venus 2006, R)
A touching, heartfelt drama as two old semi retired actors lives are turned upside down upon the arrival of the niece of one of them. Peter O'Toole becomes infatuated with her and has a strange friendship with her. A film with a certain charm, if a bit odd at times, but the acting talent on show steals the day. |

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon 2006, R)
A decent original take on the slasher genre. In this world Myers, Voorhees and Krueger are all known as famous serial killers. A small documentary crew join a man destined to become the next big name! It's good how it starts by trying to explain what it takes to be one of these characters. Also how they go about their trade and revealing the answers behind so many slasher cliches. There are some good cameos from well known horror actors like Robert Englund in a Dr Loomis type role. A nice slight twist as the story progresses as well before we get to the finale on the old creepy deserted farm! Definitely one for slasher fans who will pick up the in jokes along the way. Top marks for ideas and effort make for a pretty decent film. |

Cashback 2006, R)
A charming little British comedy, originally a short film that won a lot of awards. So they decided to just expand it a lil to a full length film. Starring Michelle Ryan in a small role, the cast is largely unknown. It also caused a stir when released as it featured a topless model (Keeley Hazell) although very briefly. It does have a few nude scenes, but they are actually quite artfully done. It's a good story, with some nice ideas right from the opening break up scene. It uses a lot of different techniques film wise, the idea of freezing time is done well. It is quite funny, add a great soundtrack and I have to say I prefer this over 500 days of summer which was a bit similar in theme. Check it out. |

Mrs. Henderson Presents 2005, R)
A great little English film with a great English casting line up. Including Kelly Reilly a very good actress on the rise, who will be well known to UK audiences in Above Suspicion, as the star of a West end show where the girls perform naked. Set during the 2nd world war, it shows the quirky, eccentric and fighting spirit of the people at the time. The film whizzes by very quickly, with a great cast, lovely girls this was a quirky comedy/drama that was more entertaining than I expected. |

Hard Candy 2005, R)
A great cat and mouse thriller in a way, just leaves you guessing who is the cat and the mouse. Some might find it a bit dark in subject matter etc, with some of the scenes as well. How far is the girl prepared to go with her scare tactics. Almost like the little red riding hood tale with the roles reversed, notice her top? Great acting from the leads and quite thought provoking. |

Cars 2006, G)
A decent entry to the Pixar garage of films. This did feel aimed a lot more at a younger audience, where their other films have something for all ages. A good voice cast and shiny motors with some impressive animation again. I loved the "Cars" versions of Toy Story, Monsters Inc at the end when the credits roll! |

Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film 2006, Unrated)
A fun doc on the history of Slasher films from the early voyueristic films like peeping tom and Psycho right up the remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hostel. It's not that indepth but it is good how it charts how the studios wanted to cash in on the success of Halloween, Friday the 13th. Then there were tons of low budget stuff in the 80's before it picked up again in the 90's with bigger budgets and a twist to the genre with the likes of Scream. Also covers make-up artist Tom Savini and interview with all the best directors of the genre. The DVD also has a few quizzes and true or false to play with, a nice touch! |

Black Sheep 2006, R) |
|
| 113 |
Tamara 2005, R)
Hubble, Bubble throw a mix of Carrie, Craft, I know what you did last summer into a cauldron and you get this low budget slasher. Borrows ideas from several films and then does it in a similar way on a lower budget. Very predictable, but if you're a fan of slasher films it might just have enough going for it to make it worth a watch once. |
|
| 114 |
Monster House 2006, PG)
A very good animated film about a house that is actually a living monster! It has a different type of animation style to most, no cute characters and bright colours here, which is in keeping with the story. It's still well animated with a good sense of depth adding a feeling of 3D space in the film. It's a little slow to start but soon picks up. It's a mix of a children's adventure with a Twilight zone story. |
|

She's the Man 2006, PG-13)
I was a little worried this would be quite a lame chick flick that would appeal more to the teenage generation. No doubt that is the target audience, but with a decent cast including a surprise show up of Vinnie Jones (Ex-Pro footballer) and high production backing, this is actually quite funny. Amanda Bynes was great, don't think I've even heard of her before? It might be too cute for some still, but I actually ended up laughing a good few times and enjoyed it. They even had some Chelsea posters in the bedroom!! |

Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia (Curse of the Golden Flower) 2006, R)
I was disappointed to be honest, I had hoped this would be as good as Hero. Visually it is stunning, bright and colourful with great attention to detail. However on the action and fighting side it is a let down. Not much happens for the first hour, there are some good fights towards the end but didn't live up to expectation! |
|

Kidulthood 2005, R)A very good film with some young English actors. I'm not sure if this was a film made for TV but it has that feel to it. It's raw, gritty and brutal showing the life of a group of teenagers in West London. Unfortunately some scenes are quite true to what is going on with inner city teenagers today and the gang culture. Fades a little towards the end but still a good watch.......now to see the sequel adulthood. |

This Is England 2006, Unrated)
A great British film, gritty and hard hitting and made on a shoe string budget. It doesn't matter the story and acting make this a very powerful film and it deserves all the awards and accolades it has received. |
|
| 123 |
Cattle Call (National Lampoon's Cattle Call) 2006, R)
A very poor low budget comedy with Thomas Ian Nicholas of American Pie. It has a few familiar faces, but this is just a rather odd film. It tries to be a bit cheeky and border on a sex comedy but fails pretty bad. Some scenes are just totally random?! Stick to the American Pie series or some of the better known comedies of recent years for more laughs. |
|
| 124 |
Children of Men 2006, R)
A very good bleak look at the future. A well made film, with a good cast. I found it a little slow to get going, but the modern look of London was interesting and technology. The best scene was a battle scene in a run down part of town as the activists clashed with the military. All the while Clive Owen is dodging bullets and trying to protect the only child on earth. It really draws you into the thick of a battle, caught in the middle trying to stay alive. After all the build up I felt the film finished a bit short, not the conclusion I was hoping for. |

The Omen 2006, R)
I've not seen the original to be honest, so I can't compare them. I have to say though this was quite slow moving, more creepy than scary. The original has quite a reputation, which might be a little dated now. This just didn't deliver any scares, jumps or action for me, shame as it has a very good cast! |
