Battleship Potemkin 1925,  Unrated)
Battleship Potemkin
You can see it´s one the first films in which the montage is a essential part, and in that way, it´s one of the keys in cinema history. However, the problem with these old films is that the novelty they suposse disappears with time, because the resources they have invented are copied by the next one hundred films; so, when you see the film, it´s difficult to get thrilled by it. However, nobody can say that the baby-car scene is not enormous, and that the montage is really well done. Of course, it also carries out the problems of silent movies, and of being a propaganda film for Soviet Union. Anyway, a little jewel, although it´s not so amazing as it should be in 1925.

The Gold Rush
For me, it is difficult to watch silent movies, and this one is not as good as other Chaplin´s stories as The great dictator and Modern times, but you can watch it in a nice way, you are always going to acquire an smile with Charlot character, and it has a couple of unforgettable and iconic scenes: the boot-lunch, and the dance with the potatoes. Amusing.

The Best Years of Our Lives 1946,  Unrated)
The Best Years of Our Lives
Seems to me a realistic approach of what happened to the soldiers of this war when they came back. Thrilling scenes, mainly with the character that lost an arm. However, and mainly at the end, the narration doesn't find its way and finds itself a little pointless, as it needed an end it doesn't really achieve.

Ladri di Biciclette (The Bicycle Thief) (Bicycle Thieves) 1948,  Unrated)
Ladri di Biciclette (The Bicycle Thief) (Bicycle Thieves)
Wonderful interpretations of both the father and the son. Good way to represent the anguish of those who are always about to loose everything they have. It is true that the plot is quite simple and that most of the time doesn't show great emotions (also, the rhythm is not slow, but not impressive), although the strength of the situations and the deeply sad feelings of the great characters -particularly at the end-, makes this movie go in my review from 3 to 3.5 stars. Should be watched at schools.
