Not sure I'd cal "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "The Incredible Shrinking Man" sci-fi, but a case could be made for both.

It's amazing how many sci-fi films from the post-war period to the 1960s were tinged with cold war paranoia.

I have a soft spot for B movies from the era, anything from "It Conquered the World" to "Teenagers from Outer Space".

I just saw The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) a couple days ago, the effects was pretty much outdated but its hell of a lot better than the remake.

I've been trying to get a copy of Metropolis (1927), it was blowing everybody's minds back in the day where people don't even know what a movie is.

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is surprisingly not dated. Gort is also the most badass robot in the history of cinema bar none.

"Metropolis" is available in a bunch of releases with different scores/running times. Some missing footage (something like 40 minutes I believe) was found about a year ago but I don't think it has been incorporated into any home release.

i only saw "The Day the Earth Stood Still" recently and it was a great film. the story still works even to this day which is brilliant.
I do love 'it came from beneath the sea'. i watched it when i was a kid and i still enjoy it now.
Could i mention 'robocop' or was that after the golden era?

I enjoyed the original of The day the earth stood still but not the 2008 film of The day the earth stood still.
