Rita Hayworth. She could dance, And she could act.Like lots of people When you think of Rita You think of Gilda, But I realy liked her in "You Were Never Lovelier" with Gene kelly.
Norma Shearer, was fantastic. She was one of a very very few to go from the silents to the talkies with out a hitch.Even the power house Mary Pickford couldn't do that.

So much to talk about! :)

Gene Tierney was so beautiful and such a great actress. I also loved Joan Fontaine,Audrey Hepburn and Katherine Hepburn. Have to mention Lauren Bacall because I was named after her.

Lauren (lucky you being named after Ms Bacall) has already mentioned most of my favourites, but Jane Wyman, Paulette Goddard and Claudette Colbert come to mind, along with Margaret Lockwood who was wonderful in The Wicked Lady.

Ok so I wanted to put my favs list down but stopped.
I think the big thing for me is... I like them all.
But I will name 3 that come first in my head.

Mary Pickford, Clara Bow, Lilian Gish for the silents,

Rita Hayworth, Norma Shearer, Hedy Lamarr for the talkies And war years.

Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Russell, Grace Kelly For the post war years.

And even just picking any 3 is hard to do. I guess I love them all.

    I second Mary Pickford.

She brought a...naturalness...to her silent performances that few other actors or actresses did.

Yes she did. She was as natural to it as a fish is to water. Shame she couldn't move on to the talkies.
She tried ..but well she was already known for the "little girl" And her grown up voice just did not match up.But That's Hollywood for you.

Vera-Ellen is my favourite. Her dancing was stunning.

Maria Montez, the queen of technicolor, defned an era. Her films were not always great (and many of them have shamefully not even been released on DVD) but she always compelling and absolutely stunning.

Hard to pick, but agree Elizabeth Taylor was amazing, especially in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

    R.I.P. Jean Simmons

Lovely actress with Awards from Hamlet to The Thornbirds and still appearing in movies until last year. A very great loss.

A great loss indeed. I didn't know she was still working, and I didn't know she had gone.

She died on 22nd January from lung cancer. I haven't seen her last movie "Shadows in the Sun".
