Stephen Moyer's passion for acting began in local theatre in Brentwood & Chelmsford, Essex where he also made a name for himself with his own theatre company The Reject Society. He then trained at LAMDA and began his professional acting career on stage, including 2 years with the RSC ('Romeo & Juliet', 'The Thebans', 'Columbus'), touring in 'Romeo & Juliet' with the Oxford Stage in the title role of 'Romeo', and in the world premiere of Pete Townsend's rock opera 'The Iron Man' at The Young Vic. British television credits include leading roles in Channel 4 dramas 'Men Only', 'NY-LON', Five's 'Menace' and the BBC's 'The Grand', 'Lilies' and 'Empathy', as well as a number of guest roles in popular shows such as 'Cold Feet', 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Waking the Dead'. In the meantime, he made his screen debut starring in the eponymous role in 'Prince Valiant' with Katherine Heigl, followed by 'Quills' with Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix & Michael Caine, as well as leading roles in subsequent movies Including 'Entrusted' and 'Restraint'. US television credits include leading roles in 'Princess of Thieves' with Keira Knightley, NBC's mini-series 'Uprising' with 'David Schwimmer', Hank Azaria and Donald Sutherland, USA Network's Golden Globe and Emmy nominated 'The Starter Wife' starring Debra Messing, and, most recently co-starring with Anna Paquin in Alan Ball's's Golden Globe nominated new show for HBO; "True Blood" (2008) as the 173-year-old vampire "Bill Compton". Moyer currently divides his time between homes in London and LA, where production of the 2nd series of "True Blood" (2008) begins January 2009.
In 2009, Bill was named as one of Entertainment Weekly's 14 Hot Vampires (Men) for his role as Bill Compton on True Blood. The same year, he won Best Horror Actor in the Spike TV's Scream Awards for the role. Stephen has read The Sookie Stackhouse novels which his show True Blood is based on. Stephen had to research the American Civil War and other American history for his role as a 173-year-old vampire in True Blood. When Stephen first got the role as Bill on True Blood, he was told to not go out into direct sunlight, to maintain a pale, vampiric appearance. Stephen has admitted that growing up, he was "a bit of a geezer". He built forts in the forest, threw rotten tomatoes at golfers and got away with underage drinking at the local pub. Stephen graduated from the LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Stephen has his own theatre company called "The Reject Society". When Stephen was 24, he moved into a purple houseboat on a London canal, where he spent his time entertaining rock star, Pete Townshend, and other celebrity guests. Stephen has a spaniel-collie mixed dog named Splash. In August 2009, Stephen got engaged to True Blood co-star, Anna Paquin. Stephen is 5' 10" (1.78 m) tall. Stephen has been involved with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. Stephen has been cast as a vampire in a TV series twice: as Jack Berrisford on BBC's Ultraviolet and as Bill Compton in HBO's True Blood. Stephen has naturally sharp front teeth, which were whitened for his role in Ultraviolet. Stephen has worked three times with director Jon Avnet: The Starter Wife, 88 Minutes, and Uprising. Like his character Michael in Ny-Lon, Stephen has had a long-distance relationship. It was with a girl living in Los Angeles while he was living in England. Stephen is friends with German actor and Prince Valiant co-star Ken Duken. Stephen was supposed to appear in the FOX drama pilot NSA Innocent (retitled Company Man), but got the role in HBO's True Blood.
