Spencer Williams mini-bio: He became known to general audiences for his role as Andy in the television version of "The Amos 'n Andy Show" (1951). Before this, he had a long career as an actor, writer, director, and even producer in motion pictures. However, these movies, sometimes referred to as "race films," were basically seen only by black audiences.
He had retired by 1950. He came out of retirement to play Andy in the television version of "The Amos 'n Andy Show" (1951).
