Russ Tamblyn mini-bio: Born in Los Angeles, California, his first movie appearance was
in *The Boy With Green Hair* (1948). He protrayed the young Saul in Cecil
B. DeMille's version of *Samson and Delilah* (1949). His breakout role was
as Gideon in *Seven Brides for Seven Brothers *(1954) in which he displayed
his abilities as a champion gymnast and acrobat. His other musical roles
include the title role in *Tom Thumb* (1958), one of the sailors in *Hit the
Deck *(1955) and as what is probably his best-known work as Riff, the leader
of the Jets in the Oscar Best Picture winning *West Side Story *(1961).
He's appeared in the movie *Peyton Place *(1957) for which he was nominated
for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Other noted roles are in *How
the West Was Won* (1962), *The Long Ships* (1963) and the Japanese kaiju
film *War of the Gargantuas* (1966). Most recently he has appeared in TV
series like *Nash Bridges* and *Twin Peaks*. His daughter, Amber Tamblyn,
is also an actress.
