During the late '70s, Piper came into his own, and developed his "Rowdy" Persona. He was one of the top heels (Bad Guys) in the business.
In 1984, Piper developed "Piper's Pit," The wrestling version of Geraldo's talk show ,which soon became his trademark. Piper would make an even bigger name for himself when he began calling out tv Tough Guy Mr. T,eventualy leading to their boxing match in 1986. During the match,Piper would sommewhat get the better of T. ,although the match was ruled a "no contest".

One of the most memorable moments of his career came when he violently smashed a coconut onto the head of favorite wrestler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka.

Piper had an amazing talent of getting under the skin of the fans and really working the crowd into a frenzy, but it was his charisma and toughness that would ultimately have fans cheering him, and thus he remained partialy unbeaten inside the ring.

In 1987, Piper had his farewell match at WrestleMania 3 but,
He would return to the spotlight in 1988 when he was cast as the lead in the film "They Live,"however It bombed at the Box office. His performance was generally well recieved, and he went on to do many more movie and TV projects throught the years, including appearances.

Piper was often brought in as a replacement but was not granted a full time position due to his age, which led him to gain employment with WCW president Eric Bischoff.

In WCW Piper would rekindle his fued with Hulk Hogan from 1985, and go on to defeat him in December of 96, earning the title of wrestlings true icon, but the prestige would prove to be overshaddowed by Hogan's massive success and extermely wide ranged appeal. Piper continued to make his mark on wrestling writing an auto biography and doing "shoot" interviews on top
stars and guys that were behind the scenes and "ruining the biz" most noteably Vince Russo.
