|  Rani Mukherjee mini-bio: She began her film career with the Bengali film Biyer Phool. Her first Hindi film was Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996), which did not do well at the box office. However, her next two releases - Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) - were hits. For the latter she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. Mukerji was in great demand after these successes and signed contracts to appear in many big projects. Unfortunately, most of the movies were average at the box office. Although, some were noticed and appreciated, the actress still needed her one big hit. Her first film with the Yash Raj Banner was Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, which proved to be the seventh highest grossing film in the United Kingdom. Four months later, her second film with the same banner, generated the critical and commercial success of the 2002 film Saathiya. She was then once all over again a hot commodity in the Bollywood marketplace. In 2003, her new look in Chalte Chalte opposite the biggest star in the country, Shahrukh Khan, made her a phenomenon amongst the youth. Thereafter, hits just followed one after another. However, 2004 was one of the most significant moment in her career. Her performances in Yuva and the commercially successful Hum Tum earned her even more awards - the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the former, and the Filmfare Best Actress Award for the latter. Her performance as a Pakistani lawyer in Veer-Zaara was also accalimed and earned her many award nominations. In 2005, she starred in a string of four high-profile films. Bunty Aur Babli and The Rising were among the biggest grossers of the year. She received critical acclaim for every film, especially her land-mark performance in Black which was Time Magazine's fifth best movie of the year. These successes established Mukerji as one of the industry's most bankable stars. Mukerji's biggest success in 2006 has been Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
