BIOGRAPHY from his MySpace page:

Name : Pablo Puyol Ledesma Birth : in Málaga, 26th of December 1975 Height : 1,88 m or 6’2” Dramatic art studies: at the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Malaga Debut as amateur: on stage he has played with his friends from Malaga El Principito – Le Petit Prince (Little Prince) by Antoine de St Exupéry Debut as professional: in Madrid in the musical Grease

Until the age of 19, Pablo Puyol was playing in a volleyball team. At the same time, he was studying biology, even if he couldn’t recognise himself in a programme, that didn’t feed him on a personal level. In between the classes, Pablo was participating in the theatre club of the University; afterward he registered at the Higher School of Dramatic Art (in Malaga). This change (in 1995) proved to be decisive in his career: there, he spent two years, after which he began to play his first roles in a theatre troupe in Malaga. “I’ve played with them in different plays, and, at the same time, I was participating in many programs on Canal Sur (Andalusian tv channel). Until the day when I packed my suitcases and came to Madrid. I was convinced that there I would find an opportunity.”

One day, Pablo auditioned to participate in a theatrical version of “Grease”, produced by Luis Ramírez. What seemed to him at first to be a simple anecdote (“I would have never imagined that they could choose me because I had no past experience as a singer. So I auditioned to see until where I’d go”) became a key role in his career. Thus he became “Kenickie” and triumphed with a character who quite often happened to outshine the lead roles of the show.

From this moment on, opportunities started happening quickly : Pablo got the main role in « Rent », another one of the big musicals on Madrid’s stage. And, like if it wasn’t enough, barely two years later, shortly after the end of a long tour throughout Spain with “Rent”, he got hired to interpret the roles of Lumier and Gaston, two of the main characters in “The Beauty and the Beast”. Then, he auditioned for “Un Paso Adelante” (“Un Dos Tres”), as actor, but also as singer and dancer, to interpret the character of Pedro. The tv show wanted an artist with multiple facets who would be able to take up diverse challenges; and Pablo was successful in each quality required by the producers. Shortly after he got the role, and with it, a big popularity which allowed him to make a name for himself in the television and music business.

In spite of the success received in « Un Paso Adelante » (« Un Dos Tres »), Pablo decided to leave the show because « When you spend a lot of time interpreting the same character, you have the big tendency of shutting yourself up in a box, and you stagnate professionally. Personally speaking, I was feeling tired psychologically, and I needed to express myself differently, to do other things, among which the development of my musical career through my own abilities. » In this sense, 2005 has certainly been one of the best years of his life, since on top of starting his solo career with « Déjame », Pablo has played in «20 centimetres », a movie directed by Ramon Salazar, and released in France on October 12th 2005.

This is when Pablo decided to make a new step forward, this time the most important in his career : his album « Déjame ». For that, Pablo Puyol was able to count on the help of a few of his friends, which took care of shaping into good tracks the experiences, sensations and memories, which constitute his life inside and outside of his job. “ When you listen to all the album, you realise that each song has been treated with a lot of consideration, with an impeccable care, from the production to the remasterisation, by way of the arrangements, all. The CD was born very well-conceived, it has grown up like it had to, and now it’s a work of quality, from beginning to end, whether it pleases or not.”

Moreover, among other surprises, Pablo makes his first steps as a compositor by signing the lyrics and the music of “Una vez mas” and of “Ya no volveré”: “What I enjoy the most is to make rock music, it’s the style with which I feel best at ease, because I believe that there my voice works better, and through it I know how to express the stories I love to tell”, affirms Pablo. “We are in such a crazy and strange period in the whole world that I feel far removed from politics and this kind of stuff. Before starting to work on the CD, I thought that I would not have the strength to talk about social themes. I don’t believe that it’s the moment, neither as an artist, nor as a person”, adds Pablo.

On a musical aspect, Pablo admits being fascinated by classical rock bands, such as Rainbow, White Snake, or Deep Purple : « The way of singing that offer these bands, fascinates me, and moreover I believe that this musical style has a lot to do with my voice. For me, people like David Coverdale or Ian Gilian, and more recently stars like Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz, and even Robbie Williams in his “rockiest” season, are models to follow.” From them, Pablo Puyol inherited his passion for the good music and the rocky touch that characterises most of the songs in « Déjame ». “The melodies get close to what a big part of the public can consider as a commercial sound; but, at the same time, I believe that the CD offers a kind of rock that rips through you and that is very direct. Indeed, one of the things that I had clearly in mind since the beginning was the desire to record some songs that would sound good in live, rather than making a CD that would have only been perfect in studio. I think that where an artist best proves what he is able to do, is on stage; and in this sense “Déjame” is full of ideal songs so that the public can benefit of it at each performance.”

“I love to sing, and I love to act; these are facets perfectly compatible,” declared Pablo Puyol. This explains that, while going on with the promotion of his CD “Déjame”, which he considers as an album that draws a very well-done portrait of his way to be and of the things he loves the most (“The lyrics talk about things that happened to me, about others that I would like to see happening, but also about people and situations to which I can totally relate”), Pablo joined, in 2006, the tv show Tirando a dar.
