Aleandro was born to a theatrical family in Argentina. She began treading the boards while still a child and grew up to become one of the country's premiere actresses. Unfortunately, she was quite up-front about her liberal views and during the late 1970s was exiled to Uruguay. Later she moved to Spain and did not return to Argentina until 1982. She soon rekindled her career and began performing in films as well as on the stage. In 1987, Aleandro was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in Gaby -- A True Story. Starred on stage as Maria Callas in "Master Class" and won the "Maria Guerrero" award in 1996. The same year she was honored as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires ("Illustrious Citizen of the City of Buenos Aires"). Co-wrote one screenplay, "Los Herederos", and has published poetry and short stories. She was quite up-front about her liberal views and during the late 1970s was exiled to Uruguay.
