• Name: Noah Wyle
  • Date of Birth: June 04, 1971
  • Place of Birth: Hollywood, California, USA
Mini-bio: Best known in the mid-'90s for playing the earnest but often fumbling Dr. John Carter on the hit television drama ER, Noah Wyle has also appeared in a few feature films, notably Swing Kids in which he... read more played a chillingly ardent member of the Hitler Youth. The son of an electrical engineer and an orthopedic nurse, Wyle was raised in Hollywood. He attended a boarding school and, while growing up, dreamed of becoming a basketball player. Lacking the height and the necessary skill, he turned toward acting. After graduation, he had the opportunity to go to college, but turned it down in favor of studying acting with Larry Moss. Wyle supported himself by working as a busboy and gained experience on stage, a venue he dearly loves. In 1990, he landed his first television role, albeit a very small one, in the NBC miniseries Blind Faith. In 1991, he made his feature film debut as the contented son Ask in the family drama Crooked Hearts (1992). More supporting roles followed, including a turn as Sir Lancelot in Guinevere, a made-for-cable look at the famed Arthurian queen as told from a feminist perspective. In 1997, Wyle starred in the independent drama The Myth of Fingerprints as a 23-year-old who has trouble getting over a breakup with his girlfriend. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Replace this image with an actor photoNoah Wyle mini-bio: Born in Hollywood, California, as one of six children of an electrical engineer and an orthopedic head nurse. Participated in a theater arts program at Northwestern University during high school and appeared in high school plays. After graduation he learned from acting teacher Larry Moss while living in a small apartment on Hollywood Boulevard. His first parts were a mini-series and featuring in the movie Crooked Hearts (1991) in 1990. One of six children in a blended family, Noah had early support for his acting ambitions from his stepfather, film restorationist James C. Katz. He had small parts in high school productions (and won an award for a play he wrote). He participated in a Northwestern University theater program, and was hooked - acting rather than college after high school. His first part was at age 17, in Blind Faith (1990) (TV), but after a few good roles he hit a dry spell for two years (no acting, waiting on tables). Then came A Few Good Men (1992) followed by another dry spell in which a return to restaurant work looked like a good option. Television shows seemed possible but Noah steered clear of these because of the 5-year contract commitment. Then came the script for the pilot of "ER" (1994), and the part of Dr. Carter looked very good. Three auditions later he had the role. Went on stage and gave a speech at MacWorld computer trade show posing as Apple Computer interim chief Steve Jobs. Jobs invited Wyle for this joke after seeing him in Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) (TV). [July 1999] Bought Bo Derek's ranch in Santa Ynez Valley, California. [June 1999] Announced his engagement to makeup artist Tracy Warbin [March 1999] Last name is pronounced "why-lee". Collects baseball cards, antiques and any bric-a-brac pertaining to the Biblical Noah's Ark. His least favorite scene on "ER" (1994) was mouth-to-mouth resuscitation of a dog; his alltime favorite the Emmy-nominated scene where he stood in a dark room reading to legendary actor and acting coach Sanford Meisner. Educated at Thacher School (Ojai, California) and Northwestern University Artistic Director of The Blank Theatre Company November 9, 2002: his wife Tracy Warbin gave birth to son Owen Strausser Wyle in a Los Angeles area hospital. Skipped school at 14 to audition for Milos Forman's Valmont (1989). Although he could ride and fence, at the time he had acted only in school productions. His head shot/resume was a picture from "Our Town" with his other school roles listed on the back. Needless to say, he didn't get the part. September 2004: Announced that he's leaving "ER" (1994) after 10 years to make room for the upcoming generation. Is a vegan. His wife, Tracy Warbin, gave birth to a girl, Auden Wyle, in Los Angeles, weighing in at 7lb. 7oz. on October 15, 2005. Godson of Kathryn Grody.
