Julian Richards mini-bio: A graduate of The National Film School, Julian Richards short films
Pirates, Queen Sacrifice and Bad Company won several awards including Best
Film at the British Short Film Festival before being televised by BBC
Screenplay Firsts, ITV and ZDF. His television career started when still
only a first year student he was invited to direct In With The Rent a
Playhouse for BBC Wales.
After film school Julian directed the docu/drama Rwanda Stories for BBC2 and
twelve episodes of Brookside for Channel Four.
In 1994 Julian adapted the novel Calling All Monsters for Steven Spielberg's
Amblin Entertainment and in 1996 he wrote and directed his debut feature
Darklands starring Jon Finch, Rowena King and Craig Fairbrass. This brooding
tale of underground paganism won six awards including The Melies for Best
European Fantasy Film and was released in the UK by Pathe.
In 2001 Julian directed his second feature Silent Cry starring Emily Woof,
Douglas Henshall, Frank Finlay and Kevin Whately. This gritty conspiracy
thriller was awarded The Gold Remi at Worldfest Houston and premiered on
UK's Channel Five.
In 2003 Julian directed his third feature The Last Horror Movie which he
also produced through his production company Prolific Films. This video
diary of a serial killer became a cult hit, winning fourteen awards,
including Best UK Feature at Raindance, and recieved distribution in twenty
two territories, including Tartan in the UK and Hart Sharp in the US.
In 2005 Julian worked as a professional advisor to the Arts Council Of Wales
and is currently in post-production on thriller Summer Scars and development
on horror Long Dark Hours.
