Gregory Edward Smith was born on July 6, 1983 in Toronto, Ontario. Gregory began acting at the age of six. His first film role was in the 1994 film "Andre". In 1996 he appeared alongside Michelle Trachtenberg in the movie "Harriet the Spy". He subsequently starred in another direct-to-video film, Shadow Zone: My Teacher Ate My Homework, and appeared in three 1998 films: Krippendorf's Tribe, playing one of the children of the title character, The Climb, a drama also starring John Hurt, and the big-budget summer film Small Soldiers, in which Smith had a lead role opposite Kirsten Dunst and won a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film Leading Young Actor in 1999. His next role was in the big budget film "The Patriot" playing the part of Mel Gibson's son. In 2000, Gregory landed a starring role on the tv show "Everwood". The show became a success and ran from 2002 until June 2006. Gregory next appeared in the independent film "Nearing Grace". In 2007, Smith had a small role in The Seeker: Dark is Rising as Max Stanton.
