Willis entered films in 1916 as director of Pool of Flame (1916). Thereafter, with the exception of his 1928 directorial assignment Blonde for a Night, he stuck to writing. Many of his scenarios of the silent era were adaptations of popular stage plays, notably Charley's Aunt (1925), The Nervous Wreck (1926), and Getting Gertie's Garter (1927). In 1928, F.
