Duran Duran biography: Duran Duran are an English pop band originating from Birmingham, United Kingdom. They were one of the most successful bands in the 1980's and were the most commercially successful out of all the new romantic bands. Duran Duran was created in 1978 by school friends Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, with the later addition of Roger Taylor in 1979 and Simon Le Bon and Andy Taylor in 1980. They supported Hazel O'Connor on tour in 1980, which ultimately led to them signing a record deal with EMI. They released their first single, 'Planet Earth' early in 1981 which became a UK top 20 hit. However, second single 'Careless Memories' was much less successful and on reached the top 40 in the UK singles chart. It was their third single, however, that became a really big hit. Thanks, to the explicit video, Girls on Film became a UK top 5 hit and helped album sales of their first album, 'Duran Duran'.
