(Click here for help.) | Don Hertzfeldt mini-bio:
Born on August 1st 1976 in Fremont, California, Don Hertzfeldt is the creator and animator of many short films. Though he had been animating shorts from the age of 15, and though his student films had a definite impact on other animators, it wasn't until he released his first film out of college, Rejected (2000), that he was catapulted to fame. Rejected gained him his first (and only to-date) Oscar nomination at the age of 25.
In 2003, Don Hertzfeldt and Mike Judge toured with their creation "The Animation Show", a concept designed to bring independent animations out to a wider theater audience. Hertzfeldt animated the intro, intermission and end sequences (Welcome To The Show/Intermission in the Third Dimension/End of the Show) while he was working on his most demanding film, The Meaning Of Life.
The Meaning of Life was released in 2004, and though the subject matter deviated wildly from the straightforward bizarre comedy he had previously created, it generated almost all positive reviews. This was his most demanding film, as he single-handedly animated it over the course of four years. Every frame was drawn and photographed entirely by Hertzfeldt without any assistance from other animators. It is alleged that actor Robert May, who has provided voices for most of Hertzfeldt's films, had the project described to him and exclaimed "Jesus Christ! That's going to take you forever!"
In 2006, Everything Will Be Ok was released. It received the best reviews of any of Hertzfeldt's films to date, and has won 36 awards including the Grand Jury Award for Best Film at the London International Animation Festival. | VITAL STATS | Don Hertzfeldt Information:
