He joined up with the program City Kids while in high school, a production involving Jim Henson puppets that performed all over the city, teaching children about character and self-esteem.Mihok's interest in performance only grew as he got older, and he began auditioning for professional roles after high school, scoring appearances on Law & Order and in the movie Sleepers. Then, still a virtual unknown, Mihok got a callback for a much more prominent role when he was cast as Benvolio, best friend of Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo in Baz Luhrmann's hallucinatory, modern take on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The project gave Mihok an amazing chance to show his stuff; not only did he impress audiences by handling a serious, emotional acting role complete with difficult, antiquated language, but he also walked around bare-chested in many scenes, wowing viewers with his muscular physique. Mihok continued to pick and choose interesting projects, acting in everything from big-budget blockbusters like The Day After Tomorrow and The Perfect Storm to independent arthouse movies like Johnny Flynton and Mojave. Mihok was a particular delight to audiences in 2006's Hollywoodland and in 2007's family film Firehouse Dog, but that year, he decided to try something a little more unconventional, joining the cast of the show Cavemen, a dry satirical comedy about the group of cultured, well-educated Neanderthals from the popular line of Geico insurance ads. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi
Dash Mihok mini-bio: Dash Mihok was born in the West Village of New York City on May 24th, 1974 to parents with ties to the New York stage and was raised in a trendy artist building. He attended many different schools including the Bronx High School of Science during his freshman year in 1988. While going to high school, he participated in City Kids, a foundation in New York City whose purpose is to "engage and develop young people" through programs dealing with self-esteem, leadership, and communication starring a group of multi-ethnic teen actors and Jim Henson's muppets. Dash was part of the City Kids Repertory, which puts on productions all over the city.
Much of the New York native's early work was lensed in his hometown. The young actor appeared in guest spots on the NYC-filmed dramas "New York Undercover," "NYPD Blue," and "Law & Order". Mihok made his starring film debut in the 1994 racially-themed independent feature "Black Is White" before receiving particularly strong reviews for his role as a mentally-unbalanced young man in the CBS TV-movie thriller "Murderous Intent". An appearance in Barry Levinson's hard-hitting "Sleepers" followed. While Mihok's performances in these New York-filmed features were strong, he first gained real notice with his featured role in Baz Luhrmann's modern take on "Romeo and Juliet".
He was a featured regular on the CBS sitcom "Pearl", starring as Rhea Pearlman's rebellious son Joey. He also had a 1999 recurring role on The WB's college drama "Felicity" as Lynn, a competitive swimmer attending the fictional University of New York. He has also had a guest appearance on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation".
To date, he has been in a variety of independent and high-budget films, the most recent of which being "Hollywoodland" and "Firehouse Dog."
