  • Name: Daniel Radcliffe
  • Date of Birth: July 23, 1989
  • Place of Birth: Fulham, London, England
Mini-bio: Daniel Radcliffe is an actor best known for portraying Harry Potter in the eight film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's immensely popular novels. The London born son of a casting agent and a literary agen... read moret, Radcliffe became interested in acting at the age of five and participated in school plays. At ten Radcliffe had his first screen acting role in a television production of David Copperfield for the BBC in 1999. It was at this time that director Chris Columbus watched David Copperfield and wanted Radcliffe to audition for 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Despite some parental reservations about the high profile part, Radcliffe auditioned and was chosen for the role. Along with the other primary actors, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, Radcliffe, at age 11, immediately became a focal point for media attention. He would eventually commit to staying with the production to its conclusion, 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. While working on the Harry Potter franchise, Radcliffe appeared in a number of other projects. Only one of these was a feature film, the Australian coming of age drama December Boys (2007), in which he played an orphan named Maps. For British TV the actor starred as Jack in My Boy Jack (2007), a WWI drama that was aired in the UK for Remembrance Day. A stage actor as well, Radcliffe portrayed J. Pierrepont Pinch in a 2011 Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Of his non-Potter roles, seventeen year-old Radcliffe drew greatest attention for participating in a 2007 revival of Peter Schaffer's play Equus in London (and later New York.) As the brooding central figure, Alan Strang, the actor received favorable reviews and a Drama Desk Award nomination for the against-type role in the psycho-sexual drama. None of that quite compared to the press he garnered for appearing in nude scenes in the play. The actor attended a number of private schools in England, but found it increasingly difficult to continue, relying instead on on-set tutors while making most of the Harry Potter films. He later expressed a desire to take a break from his education and declined to attend a college or university. Daniel Radcliffe is among Hollywood's most successful actors, particularly for his age, with Vanity Fair estimating Radcliffe to have made over $41 million from 2009 and Forbes placing him 5th on their list of box office earners in 2010.
