Daddy Yankee is one of the most successful Puerto Rican reggae ton recording artist known all over the world. He was born on February 3, 1977 in Rio Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Early Life and Singing
Daddy Yankee began singing at an early age, and at the same time tried to focus on social issues. Daddy Yankee has made efforts to make reggae ton a true symbol of the youth that are the primary market for this fast growing genre.

Daddy Yankee is also referred to as El Cangri in his native place, which is used to describe an influential person in the neighborhood. Daddy Yankee is famous for recording songs in English and Spanish, but his English songs have been far more popular than the latter ones.

Professional Career

Daddy Yankee's professional career started in 1990 when he began singing with well known singers like DJ, and Playero. He soon became well known in Puerto Rico for his association with brand names. His career took a huge leap in the year 1998, when he recorded the song "Posiciuot; with Alberto Style for the movie "One Tough Cop. Another of his songs appeared on the Piece Maker album produced by Tony Touch in 2000.
Daddy Yankee's first album that was recorded on the music charts was El Cartel which touched the Platinum record status. This was the first time such a record was made by a singer from Spain. This was soon followed by volume 2, El Cartel II which was released in the year 2001. This record also reached Platinum in sales. These immediately established him in the packed and bewildering field of reggae ton artists worldwide.
Rise of a Star
In 2002, Daddy Yankee released El Cangri.com which was also very well by his fans and even the critics. This album featured a duet with Lito: "El Gran Robo". Soon after his records made a huge hit, he was named as the "King of creation". He one of the most important achievement was winning the Street Jam Regaae Award for five years in a row. His most recent album: Homerun: Es Vol. 1 was released in 2003, and this song, Cojela Que Va Sin Jockey (lyrics) was released in the "My Flow" album by Luny Tunes and Noriega.
He is also known for his salsa and meringue recordings and is one of the best reggae ton artists.
