• Name: Bam Margera
  • Date of Birth: September 28, 1979
  • Place of Birth: West Chester, Pennsylvania
Mini-bio: Though his talent on the skateboard is undeniable, thrasher-turned-prankster foul king Bam Margera has gained more notoriety for tormenting his long-suffering family and friends on national television... read more than for his curb grinding skills. As a member of the bodily-fluid-obsessed Jackass crew, Margera's unhinged antics nearly topped that of fellow headliner Johnny Knoxville with his similar themed CKY series (named after his brother Jess' band, Camp Kill Yourself). CKY made Knoxville's MTV-friendly creation look absolutely tame by comparison. Born Brandon Cole Margera in West Chester, PN, it didn't take long for the energetic youngster to take to skateboarding. Armed with a video camera, Margera and his friends began videotaping their extreme pranks and unpredictable antics for posterity in their early teens. Though no one would have guessed at the time that those videos would have such an influence on the entertainment industry. They were eventually culled together to form the ongoing CKY series -- a somewhat more crude precursor to MTV's phenomenally successful series Jackass. A high point came when the latter was turned into a number one box-office hit in the fall of 2002, though by the time the movie hit theaters, the show had run its course and hopes for a sequel remained high. Margera soon stepped into the spotlight for MTV's Viva La Bam, a series which proudly carried the Jackass torch, sans Knoxville. Utilizing funds gained from Jackass, Margera next stepped behind the camera to direct the movie Haggard, based on a true story concerning partner-in-crime Ryan Dunn's notoriously unfaithful former girlfriend. The unhinged comedy features performances by such familiar faces as Chris Raab, Brandon Dicamillo, and legendary pro-skater Tony Hawk. In 2006 the Jackass crew got back together to make the pointedly titled Jackass: Number Two, featuring more painful stunts and bizarre practical jokes. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Bam Margera Biography

Brandon Cole Margera (name legally changed to "Bam") born on September 28, 1979 is a professional skateboarder and television personality. He released a series of videos under the CKY banner and came to prominence after being drafted into MTV's Jackass crew. He has since appeared in MTV's Viva La Bam and Bam's Unholy Union, both Jackass movies, and Haggard, which he co-wrote and directed. Bam was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania to parents April and Phil. He is also the younger brother of Jess Margera and nephew of Vincent Margera. His grandfather nicknamed him "Bam" at the age of three after his habit of running into walls. He attended East High School and has said that friend Chris Raab (Raab Himself) was his only reason for attending high school, he dropped out after Raab got expelled for smearing feces on a locker. He later received his GED at the insistence of his parents.

Bam was previously engaged to Jenn Rivell, a divorced single mother six years his senior. She played a prominent part in several of his projects and the couple appeared to be co-habiting in various episodes of Viva La Bam. However, the relationship ended in 2005 and Bam later got engaged to Melissa "Missy" Rothstein, a childhood friend. In November 2006 Bam filed for "Protection From Abuse" from Rivell after she allegedly broke into his house. He further alleged that Rivell had exhibited irrational and aggressive behavior towards him on several previous occasions including destroying several computers and vandalizing his house immediately after their initial breakup. The judge dismissed the allegations as "speculative" and "hearsay." Their break-up was attributed to rumors that Bam had slept with pop star Jessica Simpson, which he initially denied before admitting they had been "intimate". He reasserted that nothing untoward had happened after he and Simpson met at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2006. Bam married Melissa Rothstein on February 3, 2007, in downtown Philadelphia, with about 350 friends and family in attendance. The couple's honeymoon was in Dubai.

Bam was first noticed as a 13 year old pro-skater known for his creative street style and wild antics. As a teenager he created the CKY video series, which featured skating, pranks and stunts, all filmed in his hometown of West Chester. It was the tremendous success of the CKY series which led former Big Brother editor Jeff Tremaine to notice Bam's videos and draft him into the team which would eventually become MTV's Jackass. Bam and Ryan Dunn became mainstays of the cast while other CKY crew members played supporting roles to various degrees. Bam then went on to appear in both Jackass: The Movie and Jackass Number Two. Several skits in the first Jackass movie were CKY style pieces filmed in and around West Chester, but similar scenes in the second movie were removed after the arrest of Margera's uncle Vincent Margera (Don Vito).

After Jackass, Bam was given his own MTV series entitled "Viva La Bam." The show ran for 5 seasons between 2003-2005 and followed him and his crew as they performed various stunts and missions. He co-wrote, directed and starred in Haggard (2003), an independent film based on real events in the life of his friend Ryan Dunn. Bam also began a weekly Sirius Satellite Radio Show on Sirius channel 28 Faction on November 24, 2004 called Radio Bam. The show features Bam along with friends from the CKY and Jackass crews. He has also been animated as a character in pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk's video games Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Tony Hawk's Underground, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, Tony Hawk's Project 8, and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. He also voiced a character in Scarface: The World Is Yours. He made cameo appearances in the movies Grind and Destroying America.

Book Worm: Written across his knuckles. He got this either with Steve-O or just to show up Steve-O's 'S**t F**k' knuckle tattoo. Later on Bam admitted that it was a bad idea and he had the O's filled with heartagrams.

Vine:
This tattoo starts down by his hips, and curves up around his left nipple.

HIM Cosmic Pope: On his left arm. We saw Bam get this tattoo on the Vegas Episode of Viva La Bam. The cosmic pope came to attention first in "Dope Danny" by Daniel Lioneye with the line "I had become a cosmic pope". The figure then came up with the booklet of HIM's "Deep shadows and brilliant highlights".

Don Vito: Cartoonish portrait of his uncle Vito on his left leg, with the words "Glitter Gulch" Vito's favorite strip club in Vegas.

Bear & Cat: A grizzly bear doing a kitty cat which says "F**k Jeff". Done by Kat Von D.
BM: "
It's for Jeff Tremaine, from Jackass, because he made me do the trampoline next to the bulls in the opening of Jackass 2, and I was like, "I so badly don't want to do this." I like to do stunts that I'm in control of, and I can't control a hoof landing on my head. He said, "You have to do it anyway." I'm like, all right, I'm getting "Fuck Jeff" on my leg."

Grandpop: On his left leg, picture of his granpop holding a gun with a bandage on his head that says
"If you get another F, I'm gonna F U."

North Philly F****t Galores: On his upper and inner right arm
BM: "It's this crappy-looking hard-on with a bullet coming out of the d**k, and it says "North Philly F*****t." Then it says "galores" at the bottom, which means "all the way" in Spanish. That was an inside joke gone way too far at four in the morning. In Finland, somebody whipped out a tattoo gun and was like, "Just do it." I woke up the next day like, "Why does my arm hurt?" Then I'm like, "Oh my God. I really did that."

Heart: On his right wrist, this was Bam's first tattoo.

Heartagram: Bam's second tattoo above his pubic area, HIM frontman Ville Valo has the same tattoo.

Nidiot: Tattooed on his a** by Kat Von D.

Skeleton Guitar: A skateboard graphic on his left arm done by Kat Von D.

Linked Hearts: On inner left elbow.

Razorblade: On his upper and inner left arm. A tribute to HIM's Razorblade Romance CD. The razorblade design can be seen on the actual disc.

Sigillum Diaboli: Bam's wedding tattoo done by Kat Von D, which reads "Sigillum Diaboli" in Latin, which means "Devil's Seal". The title of a song by HIM.

Dr. J: Bam and Missy both got tattooed on their inner bottom lip, Missy has the Detroit, Michigan area code, while Bam has sports star Julius 'Dr. J' Irving.

Lady and Nymphetamine: Another tattoo by Kat Von D, a half naked woman covered by a filigree design on his right shoulder. The word "Nymphetamine" is written below it, it's the sixth studio album and also a song by Cradle of Filth.

Heartagram Rib Design: His third ever tattoo covers his right side. This design has been used on Element Bam skate decks, and also on Filthy Note t-shirts. This is also a popular fan tattoo.

Hank From Hell: Turbonegro vocalist Hank From Hell is tattooed on his left arm.

Andy McCoy: Hanoi Rocks guitarist Andy McCoy is tattooed on his right arm, and it reads "Where's the justice?".

DILLIGAF: On his wrist, 'Do I Look Like I Give a F**k'.
